Meet "Bloop"!! the adorable alien pet that you are assigned to take care of in a VR spaceship. You can pet it, feed it, play with it, and do many other things, but be sure never to upset it!!
This was a VR group project as part of an external brief during my Master's program, where I worked as the character and prop artist. Our project concept was to create a weirdly adorable alien pet in a spaceship environment. I designed several sketch ideas for the creature, aligning them with the art direction and style. After finalising one design, I worked on the entire pipeline for the character, from modelling to rigging. Although character animation is not my strong suit, I also took on the responsibility of animating the character. This project presented a new challenge for me, as I had to adapt my regular workflow to accommodate the constraints of VR requirements. I created the mesh and textures to ensure they were optimised for smooth performance on the VR device.
I also created some props and learned a few new techniques in the process. For toys, I created two UV maps. The first UV map is used for the base colour, utilising a colour gradient atlas, while the second UV set adds normal details through a normal atlas that I created using floaters. By combining these two methods, I was able to produce several variations of the toys with easily adjustable colours. Additionally, I used a random hue shift in the shader to provide colour variations for each toy.
This project was our submission for the Rookies 2025 - Immersive Media.

Throughout the project, I had a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with extremely talented individuals and learned a great deal from them!
